Osorio advances on to regionals for Yoe cross country

The Yoe cross country program has a long-standing tradition of sending runners to the regional and state meets.  That tradition will carry on in 2016.  Jose Osorio, which finished fourth in the district meet on Monday in Cameron, will be representing the Yoemen at the regional meet at Sam Houston State on October 29. 

 

Osorio, which finished with a time of 18:08.5, was in fifth heading down the final stretch towards the finish line before making a late push to get into the top four. There were a total of 40 varsity runners. 

 

“It wasn’t a great for us team wise, but Jose Osorio ran real good,” said Yoemen head coach Dale Keen.  “What I liked about his performance more than anything is he could have been satisfied with fifth, but he ran hard and finished fourth.”

 

Rico Bolivar had a strong performance, finishing 22nd with a time of 20:42.0.  Robbie Pfeil (30th, 22:33.7), Eric Rojas (36th, 23:54.1) and Joel Uvalle (38th, 25:04.5) all competed for the Yoemen.

 

The final team standings for the boys: 1. Little River Academy (32), 2. Jarrell (41), 3. Rogers (90), 4. Hearne (102), 5. Cameron Yoe (109).  Rockdale and Lexington did not have complete teams. 

 

Jackson Cook of Little River Academy finished first overall with a time of 17:34.9. 

 

Frances Sims was the top finisher for Cameron in the girls competition, coming in 25th out of 39 runners with a time of 15:33.8.

 

Rosal Valles (35th, 18:11.9), Harlie Halpain (36th, 18:44.4), Patience Adcock (37th, 19:55.3), McKenzie Salicos (38th, 19:59.6) and Ana Bowman (39th, 21:01.6) all ran for Cameron. 

 

“We had some kids run well such as Ana Bowman,” said Keen.  “I know she was the last one in the field but she has improved so much, and I would have to say for the girls she is the runner of the day and Jose would be the runner of the day for the boys. I am just real pleased with that.  Our efforts were good and we don’t quit.”

 

The final team standings for the girls: 1. Franklin (32), 2. Rogers (57), 3. Jarrell (72), 4. Little River Academy (76), 5. Lexington (125), 6. Cameron Yoe (161). 

 

Little River Academy’s Jenna Brazeal finished at the top with a time of 12:40.1. 

 

Osorio will now turn his attention to the regional meet, coming up next week in Huntsville. 

 

“We’ve never missed a trip to the regional meet,” said Keen.  “I started coaching in 1982 and we have never missed a regional.  We have not missed many trips to state.  Jose is a guy of good character and he’ll give it everything he has.”
