Trump elected 45th President

Donald J. Trump was elected America’s 45th President on Tuesday night, defeating Hillary Clinton.

Milam County voters followed suit with Texas as a whole, overwhelmingly voting for Trump and Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence.

Unofficial results from the Milam County Clerk’s Office saw 6,340 votes for Trump overall with 4,371 of those coming in early voting. Clinton and running mate Tim Kaine got 2,042 votes overall, 1,309 in early voting. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson garnered 176 votes and Green Party candidate Jill Stein took 49 voted in the county.

Across Texas Trump received 52 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 43 percent.

In other races Bill Flores was easily reelected as U.S. Representative from District 17 receiving over 60 percent of the vote. Flores got 6,327 votes in Milam County. Democratic challenger William Matta received 1,919 votes and Libertarian Clark Patterson received 253 votes.

Republican Wayne Christian won the race for Texas Railroad Commissioner with 53 percent of the vote. Democrat Grady Yarbrough received 38 percent of the vote. Libertarian Mark Miller got 5 percent of the vote and Green Party candidate Martina Salinas got 3 percent. In Milam County Christian got 5,841 votes, Yarbrough got 2,169 votes, Miller got 299 votes and Salinas got 112 votes.

In other races across the state: Republican Debra Lehrman won Justice, Supreme Court, Place 3; Republican Paul Green won the race for Justice, Supreme Court, Place 5; Republican Eva Guzman won the race for Justice, Supreme Court, Place 9; Republican Mary Lou Keel won the race for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 2; Republican Scott Walker won the race for Judge, Criminal Court of Appeals, Place 5; Republican Michael E. Keasler won the race for Judge, Criminal Court of Appeals, Place 6; and Republican Tom Maynard won the race for State Board of Education, District 10.

Results for local races were decided in the Primaries earlier this year. The following were elected: State Representative, District 20 – Terry Wilson (Republican); Justice, 3rd Court of Appeals District, Place 2, Unexpired term – Cindy Olson Bourland (Republican); Justice, 3rd Court of Appeals District, Place 4 – Melissa Goodwin (Republican); District Judge, 20th Judicial District – John W. Youngblood (Republican); County Attorney – Bill Torrey (Republican); Sheriff – David E. Greene (Republican); Tax Assessor-Collector – Sherry Mueck (Republican); County; Commisioner, Pct. 1 – Richard “Opey” Watkins (Republican); Constable, Pct. 1 – John Anderle (Republican); Constable, Pct. 2 – Charlie West (Republican); County Commissioner, Pct. 3 – John L. Fisher (Republican); Constable, Pct. 3 – Jay Beathard (Republican); and Constable, Pct. 4 – Michael M. Moehling Jr. (Democrat).
