Judith "Judy" Ann Roper

Judith “Judy” Ann Roper, 74, of Gause, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016.  

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jimmy Sanders officiating and burial following at the Gause Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at the funeral home.

 Judy was born Nov. 14, 1942, to Vernon Neal and Alberta “Bertie” (Willard) Shaw in Gause. She was a life-long resident on Gause and married Harvey Kenneth Roper on Dec. 2, 1960, at the Gause Methodist Church.  She worked for many years at Gause ISD where she was considered an adopted grandmother and “nurse” to all the kids at the school. Judy was a member of the Gause Methodist Church, Gause School Board and the Gause Cemetery Association.  She loved taking care of her family and never thought of herself, she was too busy caring for those around her and making sure their needs were met. Judy doted on everyone and she loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and love her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Neal and Alberta “Bertie” Shaw; and brother, Vernon Gene Shaw.

 Judy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Roper of Gause; son, Kenny Roper and Shelley Smith of Gause; daughters, Michelle Swanson and A.T. Sheffield of Gause and Keri Shumate and husband Ike of Bryan; grandchildren, Brandon Swanson and wife Ashley, Kimberly Smith and husband Tyler, and Madison Shumate; great grandchildren, Elli, Lainey, Joshua and Easton; brothers, Ronnie Joe Shaw and wife Dorothy of Oklahoma and Joe Neal Shaw and wife Darlene of Gause; and sister, Brenda Kay Wall and husband Virgil of Gause.

 Pallbearers will be Jerry Schafer, Wesley Kurtz, Chris Elliott, Rob Pryor, Rupert Work and Leroy Willard.
