Frank Arnold Tomascik

Frank Arnold Tomascik died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Tomascik was born in the Corinth Community of Milam County to John Henry and Tresa Repa Tomascik, one of nine children. He attended the Corinth School in Buckholts and Yoe High School in Cameron. At the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Army where he served for almost six years beginning at Fort Bliss in the Calvary Department. Later he was transferred to Camp White in Oregon where the 91st infantry was organized. He served 31 months over-seas starting in Algeria, then on to Egypt where he served under General Patton. Later he served in the southern part of Italy as a Forward Observer in the Leaning Tower of Pesa, then finishing up his service in Yugoslavia until the end of the war.
In 1947 he married Laverne Tomasek and she preceded him in death in 1992. He later married Dorothy Walzel Tomascik.
After the war, he worked as a mechanic and later he worked in the wholesale oil business and opened a number of service stations in Milam and Williamson counties. He then farmed and ranched until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW Post 2010, and SPJST. He served as the first president of the Milam County Water District. He served on the Buckholts City Council and the Buckholts Fire Department and the Buckholts School Board. He was a member of the Buckholts Brethren Church.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Tomascik of Buckholts; sons, Frank Tomascik Jr. and wife Debbie of Galveston, Carl Tomascik and wife Rebecca of Cameron; sister, Rosie King of Houston; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Corinth Cemetery Association.
