Yoe clip Franklin to improve to 2-0 in 20-3A

Winning is the name of the game, and since February 25 that is all the Yoemen have been doing. On Tuesday from The Yards of Cameron, the win streak was extended to nine, and more importantly to two in 20-3A, with a 5-4 win over Franklin. 

If you had just seen the first three innings of the game, it appeared as if we were headed towards an offensive shootout, with both teams scoring all of their runs in the early going. However, both pitching staffs settled in from that point on and never allowed a run the cross home plate.   

“I felt like we wasted away a few opportunities with our small ball,” said Yoe coach John Broussard.  “But, our guys stayed in the game and we played good defense and our pitcher threw strikes and gave us a chance to win today.  That is what it’s all about.”

Part of the defensive effort came from third baseman Caden Harris, which saved multiple hits down the left field line and helped preserve the one-run lead. 

“He played outstanding defensively today,” said Broussard.  “He probably saved us two doubles and he did a great job.  He has been like that all year.  We need guys like that to step.”

Cameron opened scoring with 3 runs in the first.  Leadoff hitter Zack Andress singled and Jordan Young reached on a error by the second baseman.  A Jason Llanas single, balk by the pitcher and RBI fly out by Harris allowed all the runs to cross home plate. 

Franklin pushed 2 runs across in the third, but Cameron recovered as a Bryce Brashear ground ball to short was thrown wide of first, allowing Andress and Young to score. 

After the third, Llanas settled down, giving up just one hit and no runs to shut the door.  Llanas’ final pitching line was 7 innings, 6 hits and 4 runs given up, 1 base on ball and 3 strikeouts. 

Franklin’s Nick Lopez was charged with 5 runs, with only 2 being earned.  Reliever Jake Medcalf tossed the final 3 innings, giving up just 2 hits and no runs. 

Ty Moore was a perfect 3-3 from the plate.  Andress was 2-4 and Bryce Brashear was 2-3.  All 9 Yoemen hits were singles. 

Cameron will look to continue the winning streak and keep the positive momentum going today on the road at Lexington.  Cameron will also be at Rogers on Tuesday.
