Yoe track hosts 44 Farms Relays

This week, two big track meets will take place in Cameron. Today, 20 teams from across Central Texas will be attending the 44 Farms Relays. In addition to Cameron, Austin Eastside Memorial, Brentwood Christian, Caldwell, Dime Box, Giddings, Hearne, Jarrell, La Grange, Lexington, Marlin, McGregor, Oakwood, Rogers, Salado, Smithville, Snook, Taylor, Troy and West will be attending the meet. The junior high meet will also take place in Cameron the following day on Friday.

 

All-District basketball

All-district basketball lists are out, and multiple Yoemen have been recognized. For the boys, Kevondre Wesley was a first team all-district selection. LaRondre Booze and Danny Perez made the second team, while Sicory Smith was an honorable mention selection. The Yoemen finished the season with the first playoff appearance since 2011. For the girls, Qua Workman was a second team selection and Terryn Adams made the honorable mention list. Both players will return for their senior season in 2017-2018.

 

Coaching changes

Rogers will have to find a new athletic director and head football coach as Kent Walker has decided the leave the program after just one season. Walker will be joining his brother, Jeff Walker, who has taken the head job at Liberty Hill. Jeff had successful stint in Rogers before returning to Liberty Hill in a teaching only role. Kent was just 3-8 in his one season in Rogers.

 

Mike Mullins is coming out of retirement to join Lee Fedora on the staff at A&M Consolidated. The former Yoemen head coach (2003-2008) was most recently on Fedora’s staff at Navasota.

 

Yoe tennis results

The Yoe tennis teams traveled to Thrall this past week to compete in tournament action. The mixed doubles duo of Braden Brashear and Haleigh Carter highlighted the day, placing second overall. Casey Greene was fourth, Kenzee Layne and Courtney Muniz were also fourth, while Sean Winfrey and Destiny Merrow were runners-up in the consolation bracket.
