Both golf teams headed to regionals

After finishing the first half of district in second, both teams held their ground to advance to the regional competition later this month.  

 

The Lady Yoe shot an 851 collectively, 39 strokes behind leader Rockdale for a second place finish.  Cameron trailed Rockdale at the end of the first round of district, 451 to 440.  Alexis Magre finished as the third overall medalist with a 183 over her two rounds of play.  Keagan Galvan was just two strokes behind in fourth at 185.  Jazmin Vaculin (230, 6th), Emily Graham (239, 8th), Julia Harwelll (254, 12th), Darci Denio (257, 15th) and Preslee Berry (264, 16th) all competed for the ladies.  

 

The Yoemen shot an 851 over their two days of tournament play.  Cameron trailed Rockdale by 26 strokes entering day two as the Tigers finished with an 812 overall.  Nikolas Keratsopoulos was the leading golfer, finishing with a 164 and second place medal.  Luke Greene (184, 9th), Stockton Kruse (194, 10th), Kobe Young (195, 11th), Andrew Ortiz (231, 22nd), Jordan Young (235, 25th) and Jale Walzel (245, 33rd) all shot rounds for Cameron.  

 

Both teams will compete in the regional tournament from April 24-27 in Brenham.  The top three teams advance to the state tournament, to be played in in Austin in May.  The Lady Yoe will be looking to advance to state for the seventh straight year.  

 

20-3A Baseball & Softball district standings

Baseball: 1. Rogers (8-0), 2. Cameron Yoe (8-1), 3. Franklin (5-4), 4. Academy (3-5), 5. Rockdale (2-6), 5. Lexington (2-6), 7. Jarrell (1-7).  Tuesday Results: Cameron Yoe 8 Lexington 5, Franklin 6 Rockdale 3.  Rogers and Jarrell are scheduled to play Friday.  

Softball: 1. Academy (11-1), 2. Lexington (10-2), 3. Rogers (9-2), 4. Franklin (7-5), 5. Jarrell (4-7), 6. Rockdale (4-8), 7. Cameron Yoe (2-10), 8. Hearne (0-12).  Rogers/Jarrell will take place later this week.  

 

The Yoemen will meet Rogers this Thursday at home with the district championship on the line.  Cameron fell to Rogers in the first matchup (4-2), but with a win would bring the teams back even.  A tiebreaker game would be played to determine seeding if both teams finished with identical records.  

 

Yoemen hold steady in baseball rankings

The Yoemen stayed put in Monday's TxHighSchoolBaseball.com's rankings.  Cameron, which went 2-0 to improve to 17-4-1 this past week, sit at 20th in 3A according to the website.  Rogers, which is at 16-3-1, is at number 18.  Locally, Lago Vista is at number four, Groesbeck is at six, Troy comes in at eight, Clifton is 16th, and West is 17th.  Central Heights moved into the number one spot this week with a 19-1-1 record.
