Yoe tennis has multiple competitors place at district tournament

Early this month, the Yoe tennis teams competed in the district tournament, held on the campus of Franklin high school.  Cameron finished the two-day event with two district championships and a plethora of other top five finishers. 

Yoe sophomore Houston Harris highlighted the the varsity level competition, winning the girls singles district championship.  Other varsity teams included Braden Brashear and Haleigh Carter (4th place) in mixed doubles, and Journey Page and Casey Green (4th place) in boys doubles play.

At the JV level, the Lady Yoe managed to capture the district championship.  Noemy Polanco and Tiffany Bolivar won the girls doubles division.  Courtney Muniz finished second in the girls singles. Henry Martinez finished fourth in boys singles while Chandler Barton and Kirk Lara finished in the fourth spot in boys doubles. 

Harris competed in regionals this week at College Station.  The sophomore easily coasted in her first two matches on Monday, taking down Ashlee Tinsley of Teague (6-1, 6-1) and Emily Anderson of Clifton (6-1, 6-1).   Harris fell in her two matches on Tuesday to wrap up the season as 4th in the region. 

Yoe baseball remains in rankings despite loss to Rogers

The Cameron Yoemen held tight in this week’s baseball rankings, coming in at number 22 in the latest polls.  The Yoemen, which were at 20 the previous week, suffered a tight one-run loss to Rogers in 10 innings.  Rogers, which is now number 16, remains perfect in 20-3A at 10-0, while the Yoemen are at 8-2.

The teams in 20-3A will meet 19-3A in the bi-district round of the playoffs, and all of those teams are currently ranked. Groesbeck (7), Troy (8), Clifton (15) and West (17) are all inside the top 20.  At this point, only one game separates the first place from the fourth place team.  Clifton and Groesbeck play each other on Tuesday, and the winner will be the odds on favorite to capture the district championship.  Cameron will play the number three seed in the playoffs. 

Central Heights, also from region III, remains at the top spot of the rankings at 21-1-1. 

Soccer all-district lists announced

With the state soccer tournament championships concluding this weekend, the all-district lists for 26-4A have been released. 

In total, the Yoemen had five players make the list.  Xavier Torres, a senior for Cameron, was the lone first team selection.  Noah Kostroun, another senior, was a second team selection. Benny Paredes (Sr.), Ulices Cardona (So.), and Alfredo Ramos (Jr.) were honorable mention selections.

Kostroun (Sr.), Chandler Barton (Jr.), Neeraj Bkakta (Jr.), Diego Martinez (Jr.), Robbie Pfiel (So.), and Angel Martinez (Fr.) were named to the academic all-district list.

For the Lady Yoe, six different players were honored as all-district picks.  Karla Martinez (Jr.) was a first team member, while Destiny Merrow (Jr.) and Brittney Moorer (Jr.) were both named second team players.  Adrianna Delao (Sr.), Savannah Kruse (Sr.), and Faith Kistler (Jr.) nabbed honorable mention spots.

Kruse (Sr.), Kistler (Jr.), Martinez (Jr.), Cailynne Hoelscher (Jr.), Houston Harris (So.), Katelyn Martinez (So.), and Rebecca Koustroun (Fr.) were academic all-district honorees.

Stephenville won the girls championship over Boerne (2-1) while Kilgore took home gold over Bridgeport (3-2) in the boys 4A division.
