Baseball Playoffs
The regional quarterfinal round of the baseball playoffs will take place this week. The Yoemen were bounced in the bi-district round by Troy in two games. The Trojans were eliminated by Grandview this past week in two games, 2-0 and 4-3.
The Yards of Cameron also hosted multiple playoff contest this past weekend. Liberty Hill and Madisonville played a best two ouf of three game series in the 4A area round. Liberty Hill won game one (2-1) on Friday night. Madisonville rebounded with a 5-2 win in game two before the Panthers responded with an 8-0 shutout the capture the series win.
Groesbeck and Leon played games two and three in Cameron on Saturday. Groesbeck ran away with game one at home, 18-1. The series shifted to the Yards on Saturday due to Leon having multiple athletes compete at the state track meet. The Cougars nearly pulled off an improbable comeback, winning game two 3-2, before falling in walk-off fashion in 9 innings in game 3, 2-1.
Elsewhere, a week after taking down two-time defending state champion West, Franklin downed 18-3A champion Teague in a one game playoff, 9-5. The Lions now get Grandview in the third round.
That series will be played in Cameron on Friday (6:00) and Saturday (5:00). 2A action will also be heading to Cameron as Flatonia and Dallardsville Big Sandy will start their series on Thursday at 7:00. An if necessary game three will be back in Cameron on Saturday 2:00.
Gatesville SQT Pools
As of Tuesday night, the Gatesville 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament pools had not been released. Gatesville had a few late drop outs and was looking for two teams to fill those spots. This is the same qualifying tournament that Cameron qualified in during the 2016 season.
Girls Golf finishes 5th at state
The Lady Yoe golf team capped off their season on Tuesday with a fifth place finish at the state golf tournament in Austin. Cameron sat in seventh place after day one of the tournament before making a push up two more spots on day two.
Day one scores: Alexis Magre (90), Jazmin Vaculin (94), Emily Graham (105), Keagan Galvan (106), Julia Harwell (109). Total: 395.
Day two scores: Magre (93), Harwell (94), Vaculin (96), Galvan (97), Graham (101).

Westbrook signs with Jacksonville
Less than a month after being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, former Yoemen Dede Westbrook has signed a contract. The fourth-round draft pick signed a four-year deal that is expected to be worth $3 million, including a $676,000 signing bonus.
