Week 5 Football Outlooks

Cameron Yoe (1-3) Vs. McGregor (2-2)

The Cameron Yoemen have now lost three straight games. The last time that occurred was back in 2011 when the Yoemen finished 6-4 and had an area round playoff finish. That team did struggle somewhat on the offensive side of the ball much like this year’s team has done throughout the early portion of the schedule. The key difference is that the 2011 team was very young, grooming a sophomore quarterback while playing multiple underclassmen at key positions. This team has veteran players with experience in the big games, so that leads me to believe a corner will soon be turned. A great time to start would be this Friday at McGregor for the 10-3A opener. I do believe the Bulldogs are actually down a notch from their 4-6 team from a year ago. I am going to go ahead and double up on my prediction from last week.

Around Milam County

Milano (4-0) Vs. Bryan St. Joseph (0-4)
The Milano Eagles have easily been the most impressive team in Milam County through the first four week of the season. The latest 28-7 win over Iola adds to the list, as the Eagles lost this game a year ago, 34-7. Milano will have a very good shot at finishing undefeated in non-district with the finale at Bryan St. Joseph in week five. St. Joseph has not come close to winning a game all year.

Josh’s Pick: Milano by 28+

Thorndale (2-2) Vs. Bremond (3-1)

Much like Cameron, Thorndale seemed to get off to a slow start last week, trailing by the same 17-0 score at the half to Hamilton. The Bulldogs tried to make a comeback, but it fell just short in the end, 24-22. Next up is Bremond, which rebounded by defeating Waco Reicher last week, 62-38. Can two Milam County teams take down the three-time defending state champs in a span of just 3 weeks?

Josh’s Pick: Bremond by 17.

Waco Parkview Christian (3-2) Vs. Buckholts (2-1)

Things continue to look good for the Badgers, which improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating Bryan Allen Academy last week, 85-58. District play does not start until the end of October, but this team could bring Buckholts back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Calvert will still be the favorites, but Oglesby appears to be down, scoring only 8 points in four losses. One of those losses came to Parkview Christian (47-0), a team Buckholts plays this week.

Josh’s Pick: Parkview Christian by 10.

Around 10-3A

Rockdale (1-2) Vs. Rogers (3-1)

While their other non-district foes are opening district play, Rockdale will have one final tuneup at Rogers. The Tigers have been shaky in their first three games, falling hard to both West and Lexington while picking up a 7-point win over Taylor. Rogers was, and still is the most winnable game on the non-district schedule. This should be a confidence builder type result.

Josh’s Pick: Rockdale by 21.

Troy (1-3) Vs. Franklin (2-2)

Troy had a positive by staying within one score of Robinson two weeks ago. However, the real test was still to come with China Spring at home. That game was not as close as the Cougars easily cruised to the 56-3 win. Franklin has been up and down themselves, beating Navasota and Lorena, but losing games to Caldwell and Connally.

Josh’s Pick: Franklin by 21.

Academy (2-2) Vs. Jarrell (0-4)

Both of these teams are going to struggle to be in playoff contention, but for Jarrell, this is going to more than likely be their last shot to get a win this season. The offense will have to get going as only 21 points have been scored in four games. This is a true s for both the Bees and Cougars.
