Train Museum, Old Town Cameron open for holidays
Service Directory
The Cameron Historic Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron will be open this holiday season for your enjoyment. Santa will even drop by for a visit on Dec. 7 after the Cameron Christmas Parade.
Christmas lights, music, stories, model railroads, and Christmas fantasy can be enjoyed this holiday season at the new Cameron Historic Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron, 101 West Main on the square in Cameron.
Volunteers have been working like elves to transform the museum and the iconic Old Town Cameron Model Railroad for families and children of all ages to enjoy. A 15-foot tall Christmas tree, lights, garland, bows and a storefront window like you might see on 5th Avenue in New York City along with a dazzling re-creation of a Cameron Christmas in the 1940’s is being displayed. Period appropriate steam engines will be puffing around the massive train layout along with the Polar Express complete with bells, whistles and lighted passenger cars.
Santa’s Elves have placed a special North Pole Express Mailbox in the Museum. There is Santa stationary for children to color and to write their letters. Then, they may drop their letters in the mailbox so they will be sent on the North Pole Express.
The Museum is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will reopen each of those nights for special nighttime viewings from 6-9 p.m. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. The museum will close for Christmas on Dec. 22 and reopen Jan. 9.
The museum will host Santa immediately after the Cameron Christmas Parade on Dec. 7 so children will have a chance to tell him in person what they would like for Christmas. The Cameron Yoe Cheerleaders and museum volunteers will be assisting Santa. Hot chocolate, cookies and candy canes will be served. Model trains will be running for all to enjoy.
