Lady Yoe offense quiet in loss to Snook

On Tuesday from Yoe Gym, Cameron played Snook for the second time this season. Their first matchup was just a few days ago in the Salado tournament. In that game, Cameron simply could not get anything going on the offensive end in a 36-17 loss. Cameron nearly doubled their point total the second go-around, but Snook also had an improved shooting night in a 47-32 win over the Lady Yoe.

Cameron shot just 7-29 from the field on the night, and only mustered one bucket in the second and third quarters.

“We kept trying to do a few different things offensively to try to find our shot,” said Lady Yoe coach Corey Cunningham on offensive adjustments. ‘When we played Snook on Friday, it was the same thing. We had 17 points that game, so we are just trying to find our shot and experiment with that for district.”

Terryn Adams was the most consistent scorer for Cameron all night, knocking down a 3-point shot to begin scoring, whiling finishing with a team-high 11 points. Adams also broke what was an 0-8 shooting streak in the second by driving inside, laying in the bucket and converting on the free-throw line to finish off a three-point play, cutting the Snook lead down to 27-18.

Cameron had one other big positive in the game in the form of Brianna Collier. With her team down 39-21 in the third, Collier hit a three-point shot. The next time down the court she grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball in the hoop, cutting Snook lead to 39-26 in a matter of seconds.

“We were missing Leftwich, which is one of our most aggressive players, so I encouraged them to step up and Collier answered the call,” said Cunningham.

Cameron’s defense did play fairly well in the contest, holding Snook to 17-42 shooting while forcing 17 turnovers to keep the game within striking distance throughout.

“We told them at half time that even though it was a 12-point game to stick with it,” said Cunningham. “ I didn’t feel like they could keep shooting as well as they were, because our defense was playing pretty well.”

The Lady Yoe will have one final tune-up with Moody on Friday before opening 20-3A play by hosting #1 Little River Academy on Tuesday.

“We are looking to fine tune some of our issues, with a big one being turnovers,” Cunningham said. “We have to bring those down if we want to compete against the teams in our district.”

Salado Tournament Results

Cameron had its ups and down in Salado over the weekend, starting out with a 2-0 record before losing their final three contests to finish with a 2-3 mark. The ladies defeated McGregor (50-40) and Hyde Park (64-39) on Thursday, fell to China Spring (67-35) and Snook (36-17) on Friday, and then lost to West (44-29) on Saturday.
