Houston Harris of Lady Yoe Soccer
Powerlifting posts strong results in Belton
The Yoe lifters competed in their third meet of the year this past week in Belton. The Cameron girls and boys both posted stronger results.
For the girls, Selene Vargas (1st, 132), Faith Kistler (1st, 148) and Daejanay Bell (1st, 259+) all finished first in their respective weight classes. Yieli Contreras (3rd, 259) also competed and placed well for the girls. Overall, Cameron placed fourth overall in the event with only the four girls competing.
Final girls standings: 1. Belton (46 points), 2. Mexia (31 points), 3. Gatesville (31 points), 4. Cameron Yoe (24 points), 5. Temple (21 points), 6. Waco Midway (20 points), 7. Copperas Cove (13 points), 8. Killeen Shoemaker (5 points), 9. Waco University (3 points), 10. Killeen Ellison (2 points).
The boys did not have any win their weight class, but all competitors finished at least in the top five. Results include Joe Rangel (5th, 132), Alex Aguillon (2nd, 165), Kevin Avdic (3rd, 181), DJ Fripp (2nd, 181) and Adrian Lewis (4th, SHW).
Cameron finished in 6th place out of 20 teams competing in the events.

Fall Sports Banquet set for January 29
The fall sports banquet will take place on Monday, January 29 from Yoe High School. The meal will be served at 6:00 pm from the Yoe High cafeteria with awards to follow at 7:00 pm from the performing arts center. Tickets are $10 a piece for the meal. Booster club members and athletes will receive their meal free.
Lady Yoe soccer continues to win, Yoemen hang tough
Lady Yoe soccer continues to build on what is one of their strongest stretches of games in program history. The win streak now stands at 6 matches in a row after blowout wins over Caldwell (9-0) and Rockdale (5-1) this past week.
In the win over Caldwell, Shelby Lara and Maddi Kenney each had two goals to lead the way. Faith Kistler, Victoria Williams, Darci Denio, Wendy Sanchez and Tiffany Bolivar also had goals to balance out the scoring.
In the win over rival Rockdale, Denio had the big evening with a trifecta of goals, while Lara and
Bolivar pitched in with one of their own.
The Yoemen lost a narrow match to Caldwell on Friday, 4-3. Simbad Milam, Axel Martinez and Enrique Paredes each scored for Cameron. On Tuesday, the Yoemen drew even with Rockdale as neither team recorded a goal in the 0-0 tie.
Wrestling competes in College Station
After a week off, Yoe wrestlers were back in action at the Cougar Classic from College Station. Coach Dale Keen reported that 5 different grapplers had strong showings. Cameron’s Johnvanique Porter won two matches in the 102 pound varsity weight cass, Seth Perez placed second in the 138 pound JV class with two wins, Marcos Vargas was third in the 145 pound JV class, while Ebonique House and Patience Adcock both won a match a piece.
Cameron’s next scheduled event is the Bowie State JV Championships in Arlington on February 2. District will take place on February 10 from Bryan High School.
