Cameron ISD Education Foundation awarded grant from Brookshire Brothers

The hands and feet that help the hurting and enrich the educational experience for children have additional resources thanks to the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation. 

The regional grocer’s 501©3 annually bestows grants to organizations that successfully apply for funds for their programs of work. This is in addition to what the company and its 6,000 employee-owners give in donations throughout the year.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation awarded more than $100,000 in grants to 22 non-profits and six education foundations across its market. 

The grants give organizations the resources they need to continue living out their mission of serving those in need. Trustees and company executives presented funds to the recipients at the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, Texas.

In making the presentations, Brookshire Brothers President, CEO and Charitable Foundation Board Member John Alston said, “Tens of thousands of lives are impacted by the good work these organizations do in their communities. They trans-form lives every day. It is our privilege, and that of our generous vendor partners, to help these non-profits live out their missions. It’s at the heart of who we are – a community grocer.”

Since 2007, the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation has given more than $1 million to non-profits that focus on responding to the needs in education, health/wellness, hunger, and the arts. For more than sixteen years, Brookshire Brothers has invited its vendors to play in two Charitable Foundation golf tournaments each year. Vendor partners appreciate the opportunity to network with their colleagues while raising money for more than twenty worthy causes – all which support children and families and align with the grocer’s core values of giving back to the communities it serves. The funds are granted based on the organizations’ needs and application requests.

The 2018 recipients are: Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council, American Cancer Society, Angelina Arts Alliance, Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas, CRRC of Canyon Lake, Dublin Goodfellows, CRRC of Canyon Lake, Dublin Goodfellows, East Texas Alliance for Children, EmilyAnn Theatre, Friends of the Ellen Trout Zoo, Junior Achievement of Angelina County, Junior League of Lufkin, Lake Whitney Ministerial Alliance, Lee County Youth Center, Mission Reclaimed, Newton Food Share, Pilot Point Community Opera House, Pregnancy Help Center of Lufkin, Texas Forestry Museum, The Joseph House, The Mosaic Center, Volunteer Services Council, and Women’s Shelter of East Texas.

In addition to these contributions, Brookshire Brothers has a separate employee-run donations committee, which meets monthly to consider hundreds of dona-tion requests from throughout the company’s footprint.
