Yoemen fall short at state track

Sometimes things just don’t go your way. For the Yoemen track team, it was one of those days. The Yoemen were expected to be in contention for a possible team title or top three finish, but in the end did not earn any points.

In the 4x100 relay, Cameron finished eighth out of nine teams, coming in with a time of 43.36, over a full second slower than their qualifying time posted at regionals. Cameron’s regional time would have been good enough for fourth.

Davion Bynaum saw the same fortunes, finishing eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.87, short of his qualifying time of 10.64. Van Vleck’s De’Mitri Monroe took home gold with a 10.57.

Bynaum scratched in the 200 meter dash with injury. Yoakum took home the team championship, totalling 60 points.

Bryson finishes strong at state

Entering the state track meet, Bryson said she was going to put forth her best effort. That effort led to positive results as the senior finished off her career with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash and a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash, totalling six points.

In the 100, Bryson ran a 12.10, which was an improvement from her regional time of 12.37. In the 200, she ran a 25.10, another improvement from her regional time of 25.63.

Leonard won their second consecutive state championship on the girls side.

Yoe golf shakes rough start to finish 10th at state

Rough starts are usually not easy to overcome. That was the case for Yoe Golf as the state tournament this week, as they sat at 373, 64 strokes behind leader Pottsboro after round one of the event.

The Yoemen were going to need their leader - Nikolas Keratsopolous to shoot in the 70s and have all other golfers come in the lower 80s to have a shot to medal.

Keratsopolous had a rough start, coming in with a triple-bogey followed by a quadruple-bogey on the opening two holes, but managed to recover and finish with a respectable first-round 84.

Kobe Young’s and Stockton Kruse’s 96, Luke Greene’s 97, and Jale Walzel’s 100 were Cameron’s scores from round one.

The Yoemen did bounce back in round two, coming in with an 18-stroke improvement at 355, for  

a two-day total of 728.

Keratsopolous led the way with an 81, Greene came in at 87, Young was a 91, Kruse shot a 96, and Walzel closed things out with a 99.

Keratsopolous finished in 29th place overall individually. Austyn Riley of Pottsboro won the individual title with a 137.

May commits to UMHB

On Tuesday, a third Yoemen made his commitment to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. May joins Bryce Welsh and DJ Daniels as defensive backs to commit to the Cru. May finished the 2017 season with 30 tackles and 1 interception.
