Softball teams see success at state tournaments

Last week, two Cameron teams made long runs at the state tournament, finishing as state runner-up within their respective age divisions.

In the eight and under coach pitch division, the Cameron Thunder opened up the tournament with five straight wins before falling to the Salado Shock twice to finish in second place. The Thunder had wins over Itasca, Bosqueville, Mexia, Salado and Belton before having to meet up with Salado again as the only team left in the winner’s bracket.

In the 10 and under division, the Cameron Barbie Bashers also made a run to the state championship game before falling to Belton. The Barbie Bashers drew an opening round bye before taking down Alto, Blooming Grove and Troup to advance to the semifinals. Cameron fell in that game, rebounded to beat Troup to advance to the final, before falling to Belton once more.

In 12 and under play, the Milano Wolf Pack had wins over Jacksonville and Grand Saline before bowing out to Teague and Groesbeck.

The boys teams are at state this week, and we will have a full report on results in next week’s edition of sports.
