Cameron hosts cross country meet
100 of runners made their way to Cameron last week for the annual Cameron Invitational cross country meet.
For the Yoemen, Joseph Munoz was the top finisher, coming in at 14th place with a time of 18:02.47. He was the only runner for the varsity boys. In the JV division, Joseph Barbo was 16th at 21:40.18, while Xavier Paredes was 32nd at 25:00.80.
For the junior high, Colton Barbo led the pack with a 25th place finish and time of 12:56.46. Brock Wright (43rd, 13:45.16) and Brady Haven (49th, 13:55.65) also ran for the team.
On the girls side, Daniela Bustamante continues to lead the way with a 13th place finish and time of 13:53.07. Daisy Osoria was 30th at 14:17.59.
In the JV division, Sarai Leon placed 23rd at 17:37.54. At the junior high, Logan Pevehouse finished 15th out of 125 runners at 13:42.44.
The teams will be back in Cameron on October 8 for the 19-3A district meet.
Lady Yoe slip further back in the 19-3A Standings
Cameron has hit a rough stretch in the district schedule, now losing six out of their last seven matches after a 3-2 defeat to Lexington on Friday and then a 3-1 loss to Troy on Tuesday. Both matches were on the road.
After taking the opening set over Lexington, 25-19, Cameron fell hard in the second (25-10) and the third (25-15) to fall into a 2-1 hole. The ladies rebounded, winning the fourth, 25-19, before falling in the fifth in extra points, 17-15.
On Tuesday, Cameron once again got off to a hot start, winning the first, 26-24, before losing the next three games, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22. Cameron will host McGregor on Friday and will be in Rockdale on Tuesday.
