Westphalia KCs Shrimp & Fish Fry

Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council #13902 will sponsor a drive-thru Shrimp & Fish Fry every Friday evening during Lent beginning Feb. 16 thru March 23. Plates will be to go only starting at 3:30 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. (or until sold out). Plates will consist of fried shrimp, fried fish, beans,  slaw and french fries. Cost will be $10 per plate.  Plates can be picked up in a drive-thru lane behind the Westphalia Parish Hall, 3000 State Highway 320, Westphalia.

Book Fair Week to feature Dinosaurs Live event

Ben Milam Elementary and Cameron Elementary will host a Spring Scholastic Book Fair the week of Feb. 12-16. 

Families and the community are invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers.

This year’s event will feature Dinosaurs Live and Ben Milam on Feb. 12.

The Book Fair will be open at Ben Milam on Monday, Feb. 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb. 13, to Thursday, Feb. 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Friday, Feb. 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A special Family Event will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, Dinosaurs Live will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Ben Milam PTO. The Book Fair will be open before and after the event.

The Family After School Book Fair event will be held from Monday, Feb. 12, to Thursday, Feb. 15, from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Milam County 4-Hers participate in District Food Show and Challenge

The team consisting of Marisol Hill, Kadance Koenig, Wyatt Koenig, and Robert Miller competed in the District Food Show and Food Challenge on Dec. 13 in Belton.

Four youth from Milam County 4-H participated in the District Food Show and Food Challenge on Wednesday, Dec. 13, in Belton. 

This is the second time for Milam County 4-H to ever participate in the food challenge. The team consisted of Marisol Hill, Kadance Koenig, Wyatt Koenig, and Robert Miller.

Robert Miller also competed in the District Food Show. 

They all did a great job! Milam County 4-H hopes to grow this program in the future! If interested, please call the Extension Office.

Cameron Christmas Parade

Its a “Candyland Christmas” in historic downtown Cameron for our annual Christmas Parade. See the historic downtown square, Museum, Old Town Cameron and Historic Jail. Enjoy dinner at the food trucks and booths, listen to live music with carolers singing favorite Christmas Songs, while shopping at artist and vendors booths. Festivities start at 6 p.m. with parade at 6:30 p.m. What a great way to recapture your childhood Christmas spirits with lights, music, floats and Santa. Have your picture taken with Santa at the Old Town Cameron Miniature and bring your “Letter to Santa” to be placed in the special mailbox to be sent to the North Pole. Watch the Polar Express Train run thru the miniuture Old Town Cameron and meet the Conductor and sip on some Hot Chocolate.

Lunch and Learn workshop planned

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Milam County will be offering a Two-Day Lunch and Learn Cooking Workshop on Dec. 8 and 15. 

Lunch and Learn Cooking Workshop is a way to learn healthier cooking habits. In addition, this method of preparing and cooking meals will promote more family meal time, save time and money, and teach individuals the basics in freezing. 

The session will cover healthy eating, food safety, measuring, packaging and freezing meals and provide more resources for participants. Participants will be guided through the preparation and freezing of two easy and nutritious main dishes before the two sessions are over.

The program will be from 12-1 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 15 at the Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce Board Room.

Ladies Auxiliary to host quilt raffle

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will have a quilt raffle during the Veterans Day Breakfast on Nov. 10 at the American Legion Hall. The quilt is on display at the Cameron Public Library where you can also purchase tickets.

Cooking with Friends set for November

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Milam County will offer a program that will help organize the preparation of four easy and nutritious main dishes in a 4-2 hour sessions.

Cooking with Friends is a way to learn healthier cooking habits. Calendar of Events: Nov. 2

Lunch Bunch

The Lunch Bunch will meet on Thursday, Nov. 2, at noon at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Cameron. Dana Goodwin from Kindred Health will talk to the group about memory care. The public is invited to attend. Bring a food dish to share for the lunch at noon.

 

Lilies of the Field

Milam Community Theater will debut their latest production at the Williams Event Center in Cameron. William Barret’s classic, “Lilies of the Field,” hits the stage this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4-5, with encore performances the next weekend. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Curtain rises at 7 p.m. for Saturday showings and 2 p.m. for Sunday showings. Get your tickets at the door.

Senor Class Fundraiser

C.H. Yoe High School Class of 2018 Senior Celebration selling tickets for a chance to win a 2018 Ford Focus valued up to $19,995. Color and model to be decided by the winner at Johnson Ford in Temple. The winner is responsible for tax, title, and license. There will only be 300 tickets sold for $100 each. Contact any senior or senior parent to get a chance to win. The winner will be drawn on Jan. 27, 2018. Winner doesn’t need to be present to win.

 

Democratic Party Meeting

The Milam County Democratic Party will hold its executive meeting on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. in the party headquarters at 1707 West Cameron Ave. in Rockdale. All democrats are welcome to attend. All precinct chairs should attend and fill out application for the primary ballot in March 2018.

Yoe High Class of 1957
