Eudora Virginia Williams Leslie

Eudora Virginia Williams Leslie, 92, of Cedar Park, formerly of Taylor, and McNeil, Ark., passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin. 

Eudora was born at home on Sept. 5, 1924, near Emerson in Columbia County, Ark., and she was a public school teacher, writer of teacher-training and children’s religious literature, manager, and other professions in Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eutoga Sanders Williams; husband, Reuben Leslie; and brothers, Regnold and Errol; and sister, Mary Vern Williams.

Bernice Caffey-Moore

Bernice Caffey-Moore, 94, of Rockdale, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 6, 2017, in Taylor.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 10, 2017, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with internment following at Salty Cemetery in the Salty Community. Visitation was held Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the funeral home.

Bernice was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Salty, to Luther and Catherine (Storey) Jackson. She attended Salty Community School and spent most of her career as a beautician in Thorndale. She was also a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale and loved playing dominoes and cards with friends and family. Bernice married W.C. (Claude) Caffey on Sept. 4, 1939, in Thorndale. Claude passed away in 1992, and she married Luther Moore on March 9, 1998, in Rockdale.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Caffey; second husband, Luther Moore; son, Lee Roy Caffey, and daughter-in-law, Judy Hudson Caffey.

Joel Warren Simank

Joel Warren Simank, 40, passed away and into the arms of Jesus on July 5, 2017, surrounded by the ones who loved him most. 1 Corinthians 5:8, John 3:16. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with burial to follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at the funeral home.

Joel Simank was born September 6, 1976, in Taylor. He was raised in Rockdale and Thorndale by his loving parents.

James Tate

James Tate, 80, of Cameron, died Saturday, July 8, 2017, in a Temple hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Bro. Wayne Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Tate, a retired machinist and cattleman, was born June 29, 1937, in Crawford, to Edgar and Ruby (Brunson) Tate. He married Carolyn Wall. He was a member of the Marlow Baptist Church. 

He was survived by: wife, Carolyn Tate of Cameron; son, Jimmy Tate and wife Lisa of Murphy; brother, Randy Booth and wife Marsha of Waco; sisters, Rosa Lee Wetzel and husband Wilbur of McGregor, and Darlene Jackson and husband Carl of Waco; two grandchildren, Matthew and Brysen; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Albert A. Lange

Albert A. Lange, 82, of Temple, passed away peacefully after a long illness, Sunday, July 2, 2017, in The Woodlands, surrounded by his family.

Albert was born Jan. 15, 1935, in Cameron to A. W. and Minnie (Pick) Lange. He grew up in Buckholts and received his B.S. and M.S. in Education from Southwest Texas State Teachers College. He married La Rita Ruth Danneberg on July 13, 1957. Albert taught and coached in Garden City, Llano, Ennis and retired from Clear Creek High School in 1990 where he was the Head Guidance Counselor.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, La Rita R. Lange; daughter, Susan (Michael) Welbes; son, B. Scott Lange; brother, Kennard Lange; and grandchildren Sarah and Rachel Welbes and Matthew and Emma Lange.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the loving staff of Silverado Memory Care and Silverado Hospice.

Services are pending with Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron.

Frank Buster Fox Jr.

Memorial services for Frank Buster Fox Jr., age 69, of Lake Jackson will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Alan Trafford officiating. Interment will be at Marlow Cemetery Cameron at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29.  The visitation will be at Lakewood Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28.

Frank was born 1947 in Terre Haute, Ind. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman from 1964 to 1970. He Retired from Dow after 40 years working as an EH&S Technician. He was the Historian and active member of the American Legion Post 306.  He enjoyed running, cycling, hiking, golfing, walking, fishing and was a skilled carpenter, and a great cook.

Survivors include: his wife, Brenda Burnett Fox; children, Kara Fox and Matthew Hoelscher and wife Natalie; sisters, Carole Schneider and Janice Bonner; nieces and nephews, Karen, Susie, David, and Kenny; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Berta Jean Woelfel

Berta Jean Woelfel, 72, of San Antonio, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, in Schertz. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale, with burial following at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

 Berta was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Williamson County to Willis Arthur and Berdie Lee Gambrell. She graduated from Thorndale High School. Berta married Milton Woelfel Aug. 15, 1963, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Thorndale and soon after, they moved to San Antonio. She was a member of King of Kings Church in San Antonio.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Woelfel; granddaughter, Courtney Woelfel; parents, Willis and Berdie Gambrell; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Sturdivant.

Cirilo Castillo Jr.

Cirilo Castillo Jr., 23, of Cameron, died Sunday, June 18, 2017, in Rockdale due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2017, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Castillo was born March 30, 1994, in Temple to Cirilo Castillo and Esperanza Cortes Jimenez. He was currently serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. 

Mr. Castillo is survived by: his parents of Cameron; his grandmother, Antonia Reyes of Minerva; his brother, Alejandro Castillo; and his sisters, Azucena Castillo, Adriana Castillo, and Maria de Jesus Castillo.

James Fred Kaatz

James Fred Kaatz, 90, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, after battling lung cancer.
He was preceded in death by his special friend, Helen Rose. The two were together for over 18 years.  
He was also preceded in death by his five brothers and five sisters.
He leaves behind his daughter, Alisa Kaatz Ried; his son, James Fred Kaatz Jr.; his step-daughter, Elizabeth Graham; his grandchildren, Steven Ried Jr., Angela Ried-Elizondo, Beau Blackshear, and Sherry Beal; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and close friends. 
Mr. Kaatz was born on March 25, 1927, and raised in Buckholtz, the son of Rudolph and Helena (Harms) Kaatz.

Wayne Ray Doskocil

Wayne Ray Doskocil, 81, of Holland, died Friday, June 16, 2017, in a Bartlett nursing facility. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Mark Nyguard officiating. Burial will follow in the Val Verde Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Doskocil, a retired farmer and rancher, was born May 1, 1936, in the Clarkson Community of Milam County, to Raymond P. and Ella Lynn (Pavelka) Doskocil.  He married Mozelle Shelton on July 14, 1956. 

Mr. Doskocil is survived by: his wife, Mozelle Doskocil of Holland; son, Doyle Wayne Doskocil of Buckholts; brother, Weldon Lee Doskocil of Holland; and three grandchildren, Clayton, Corey & Caitlen.
