Barbara Schulte

Barbara Schulte passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in Katy, at the age of 76. 

She was born on Oct. 18, 1940, in Cameron, to James P. Coward and Velma Hayes Coward. She was a proud graduate of Cameron Yoe High School. Barbara married Johnie Schulte in 1962 and lived in Houston, raising their family and residing for many years in Jersey Village. She enjoyed travel, playing card games, fishing, spending time with her grandkids, and was an enthusiastic fan and season ticket holder of the Houston Astros for over 25 years.

Mary Cruz Tamez



Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary Cruz Tamez passed away on June 5, 2017, she was 79 years old. 

Mary was born on Nov. 13, 1937 to Teodoro & Paula Cruz in Cameron.  In 1959, at the age of 22, Mary married the love of her life, Reuben Garcia Tamez, in Cameron. They were married for 56 years until the death of Reuben Garcia Tamez in December 2015.

Mary enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidering and taking long walks with friends, family and her many dogs over the years. Mary had an infectious smile, tender heart and beautiful soul that overflowed with love that allowed her to always make friends with strangers.

Mary’s family was everything to her – she was the true measure of Unconditional Love.  Mary was a devout Catholic and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Ernest J. (E.J.) Provasek

Ernest J. (E.J.) Provasek, 92, of Cameron, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in a Cameron nursing facility. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Pastor Johnny Kueker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Provasek was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Milam County to J.A. and Sophie (Ludwig) Provasek. He married Joyce Busker on Jan. 7, 1950, and she preceded him in death in September of 2016. He was the owner/ operator of the local John Deere dealership in Cameron for 25 years. He was a member of the San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 for 70+ years, and was the recipient of the Golden Trowel Award.

Jessie William "Buddy" Eaton Jr.

Mr. Jessie William “Buddy” Eaton Jr., 69, of Buckholts, passed away Friday, June 2, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Eaton will be held Wednesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, with the Rev. Billy Crow officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 8, at 3 p.m. at Acres Cemetery in Sherman.

Mr. Eaton was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Cameron to Jessie William and Katie (Russell) Eaton. He was a concrete truck driver. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include: his two sons, Virgil Goforth of Pottsboro and Jessie William Eaton III of Dallas; daughters, Terisa Eaton of Denison, La Nelda Tigue and Audrey Tigue, both of Hillsboro; brother, Gerald Eaton of Buckholts; and sister, Shirley Jurca of Buckholts. Mr. Eaton is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  the love of his life, Vickie, and one sister, Ida Eaton.

Raymond Alfred Urban

Mr. Raymond Alfred Urban, 68, of Cameron, passed away Wednesday, May 31, at a Temple hospital. Services for Mr. Urban were held Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green Patterson Funeral Home, with Rev. Terry Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.

Mr. Urban was born Oct. 14, 1948, in Temple, to Arnold J. “Tutt” and Theresa (Giesie) Urban. He graduated from C. H. Yoe High School in 1967, where he played for the Yoemen football team. Mr. Urban was employed by Southwestern Bell as a cable splicer. He was a member of the NRA and AARP. He was also a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: his brother, John Urban of Cameron; and sisters, Frances Adcox and Kathleen Thorpe, both of Cameron. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for the family was held Friday, June 2, at the Funeral Home.

Wanda Lee Shoaf

Wanda Lee Shoaf, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 16.

Born in Cameron on Nov. 15, 1927. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Lee Shoaf; and daughter, Dianah Tucker.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Angie Zbranek and fiance Dennis Shulz, Debbie Cantu and husband Mat, and Tina Zbranek; grandson, Chris Tucker and fiance Tiffany Unger; great-grandsons, Joey Cantu and Kyle Cantu; sisters, Nelda McLerran and Barbara Schulte; brother, Elton Coward adn wife Gloria; adn numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 23, at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, in Houston. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held May 24 the the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment was in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

Faye D. Smith

Faye D. Smith, 80, of Cameron, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017. She was born Dec. 6, 1936.

Her visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, and her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 3. Both services will be held at True Love Family Worship Center, 705 N. Crockett Ave., in Cameron.  

Services are entrusted to All Families Mortuary in Hearne.

Linda Ethridge Grothe Jordan

Linda Ethridge Grothe Jordan, 70, of Cameron, died Monday, May 22, 2017, in an Austin hospital. 

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at Marlow Cemetery near Cameron. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home Chapel.

Ms. Jordan, a homemaker, was born Oct. 7, 1946, in Cameron to Johnie and Vivian (Davis) Ethridge. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron and had worked for the Milam County Appraisal Office for many years and also as a drug and rehab counselor. 

She is survived by her son, Ty Grothe and wife Susan of Lorena; daughter, Tracy Tindell and husband Brian of Belton; two grandchildren, Madison and Morgan; and special companion, Pat Lackey of Elgin.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Joel Ray Saucedo-Perez

Joel Ray Saucedo-Perez, infant son of Stephanie Saucedo and Joel Perez, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in a Temple hospital. 

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Monica’s Cemetery. A rosary will be recited 6 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Joel is survived by his father, Joel Perez Jr. of Killeen; his mother, Stephanie Saucedo of Cameron; paternal grandmother          , Rosario Trujillo of Killeen; paternal great-grandmother, Catalina of Karanco; maternal grandparents, Mirthala Saucedo of Cameron and Jose Angel Saucedo of Cameron; maternal great-grandparents, Juan Manuel Saucedo of Cameron and Cruz Rioja of Cameron.

Wesley Shafer

Wesley Shafer, 78, of Cameron died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at his home.  Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Delong officiating.

Mr. Shafer, a retired carpenter, was born April 10, 1939, in Milam County to Mr. and Mrs. William Shafer. He married Shirley Ann Hall and she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2016. 

He is survived by his sons, Wesley W. Shafer of Sweet Home and Harvey Eugene Shafer of Cameron; daughter, Shirley Jean Collins of Gause; brother, James Shafer of Gause; sister, JoAnn Shafer of Cameron; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
