Isabel Castillo Muniz

Isabel Castillo Muniz, 78, of Cameron, died Monday, July 25, at his home. 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation and rosary will be 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Mr. Muniz, a retired rancher, was born June 18, 1938 in Mexico. He married Maria Contreras in 1974 and she preceded him in death in 2015. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. 

He is survived by sons Facundo Muniz of Cameron and Eduardo Muniz of Rockdale; daughters Maria Petra Muniz of Cameron and Laura Lewis of Cameron; brother    Enrique; and sisters China and Margarita; 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Terhune

Joyce Terhune, 79, of Cameron, died Friday, July 15, in a Cameron nursing and rehab center. 

Funeral services were held Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Mrs. Terhune was born Dec. 12, 1936 in Wink, Texas to Lloyd and Siggle (Hunt) Brown. 

She married Jack Terhune on Oct. 15, 1953 and together they owned and operated Deluxe Cleaners for over 30 years. She then went to work for Central Texas Hospital and later she went to work for Standards Hospice. 

She had also been recognized by Cameron as a past Citizen of the Year. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Hope Cummings. 

She is survived by her husband Jack Terhune of Cameron; daughter Jackie Brantley of Cameron; two grandchildren, Ann Brantley and Carson Brantley; and two great grandchildren, Johnny Huerta and Sullivan Brantley.

Robert Brann Allison

Robert Brann Allison, 83, of Rogers died Monday, July 11, 2016 in a Temple hospital.  

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Monday, July 18, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery.  

Visitation will be Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Allison, a retired truck driver, was born March 1, 1933 in Milam County to Raymond and Matilda (Heitman) Allison.  

He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.  

He is survived by sons Raymond Brann Allison of Edinburg and Howard Allison of Lott; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jerry Loyal Henson

Jerry Loyal Henson, 76, of Cameron died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his home. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Delmar McCracken and Rev. Carl Hudson officiating. Burial followed in the Marlow Cemetery near Cameron. 

Mr. Henson, a retired farmer and machinist, was born September 28, 1939 in Rains County, Texas to Loyal and Annie Bell (Williams) Henson. 

He married Sharon Lee Kinsey on Sept. 28, 1957. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron where he served as a deacon. 

He is survived by his wife Sharon Henson of Cameron; sons Robert Wayne Millican of Brownfield and James Loyal Henson of Texas City; daughter Tamey Lee Morton of Kuwait; sister Kathy Ann Greene of College Station; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Technology Fund.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Jean Gommert Price

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Gommert Price, 79 of Ferriday, La. was held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church on Sunday, July 3, with Bro. Dennis Baker officiating. Interment followed at Highland Park Cemetery, Sicily Island, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Dorothy Jean Price was born on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1936 in Temple, Bell County, Texas, to Charlie Herman Gommert and Ida Edna Hagemeister Gommert. She departed her earthly home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s to go to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Riverland Medical Center.

Lillie Mae Johnson

Lillie Mae Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Johnson, 98, of Rockdale were held Monday, July 11, at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of the Green-Patterson Funeral Home.

Rodney Kruse officiated. Burial followed in the Milano Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson passed away July 8, 2016 at a Temple hospital, just 11 days short of her 99th birthday.

Mrs. Johnson was born July 19, 1917, in Milano to Jackson and Nora (Price) Hairston. She spent her entire life in the Milam county area. 

She was married to Lewis H. Johnson, who preceded her in death February 21, 1978. Also preceding her in death was her son, Gerald Glenn Johnson, several brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Kathey Keller of Detroit, MI and one brother Aubrey Hairston of Belton. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Billy B. Scott

Billy B. Scott, 82, of Splendora, went to be with his Lord Monday, July 4, 2016. 

He was born Tuesday, May 22, 1934 to David and Eunice Scott in Winters, Texas. 

Billy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Franklin Scott; sisters, Cecil Fay Williams and Matley Ann Scott.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jann Scott fo Splendora; Sons, Billy Andrew Scott, Jeffrey Waye Scott and wife Karen; daughters, Janie Renee Scott, Eunice Ann Waddell and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Jason, Tina, Jeffery, Gina, Misty, Christina, Gina, Brittany and Tiffany; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dicky Scott and wife, Nancy, Bobby K. Scott of Cameron; and a host of other family members and friends. 

Billy was a retired painter having served The Michael DeBakey Veterans Hospital for more than 33 years. 

Funeral service was held Saturday, July 9, at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment followed at Squire Cemetery, in Cleveland.

Odessa Kennon Geary

Odessa Kennon Geary

Odessa Kennon Geary, age 82 of Manchester, Tenn., passed away on April 8 at Unity Medical Center in Manchester.

Born in Cameron, Odessa was a member of the C-141 Flight Test Evaluation Detachment in her early employment years; a retired Registered Nurse (RN) receiving her nursing degree in 1976 from The University of Texas at Austin, began her nursing career at a Minneapolis Medical Center, specializing in oncology treatment and care; later, practiced private care for several years thereafter and retired in Vermont in 1980.

After retirement, she raised Morgan horses and managed her garden and church activities. In 2001, Odessa settled in Central Tennessee with her husband John to be near her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Odessa was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Kennon and Fannie Bell Kerns Kennon.

Dora Emma (Duncum) Turner

Aug. 20, 1922 – July 8 , 2016    

1942.  WW II.  A single, 20 year-old young lady from Cameron, Texas, daughter of Orba O. and Nuell Sanders Duncum, boarded a train alone, for Washington, D.C.  She was answering the call for clerical staff at the “War Department.” Indeed, an independent and most patriotic young woman. 

Later, back home in Texas and settled into married life and motherhood, she worked for the Texas National Guard, Camp Mabry in Austin for 31 years.

Lee Roy Pratt

Services for Lee Roy Pratt, 76, of Cameron will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at Marlow Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Marlow Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Lee Roy passed away on Tuesday, July 5, at home with loved ones after a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 5, 1939 in Marlow to Ora Aline and Ernest Edwin Pratt. 

He married Joan Williams on May 3, 1958 in Rockdale. 

He was a brick mason by trade and retired from Alcoa in 2002 after 25 years of service. 

He was a member of Marlow Baptist Church in Marlow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Ernest Pratt; sister Margie McClaren and brother Stanley Pratt; great grandson Isaac Lee Harwell; wife’s parents Roy and Ethel Williams; and wife’s brother Roy Williams.
