Mary Wynelle Smith

Mary Wynelle Smith, 84, of Cameron, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, in a Cameron nursing and rehabilitation center. 

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at the Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis. 

Ms. Smith, a retired legal secretary, was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Ennis to William T. and Mary (Conklin) Smith. 

She is survived by: her daughters, Kathy Mayes and husband Mike of Buckholts and Ellen Byron of Victoria; and three grandchildren.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Fay Uecker

Edith Fay Uecker, 83, of Cameron died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at her residence, in Cameron.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion in Cameron.

Mrs. Euecker, a retired bookkeeper, was born Feb. 18, 1933, to Rollin and Audra Hoad in Paris, Texas.  She married Charles Robert Uecker.

She is survived by: husband, Charles Uecker of Cameron; sons, Rollin Hutton of Marlin and Charles Robert Uecker Jr. of Conroe; three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Roel Buegeler

Roel Buegeler, 89, of Burlington, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at his residence. 

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Rev John Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Burlington.

Mr. Buegeler was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Wall to Elo and Rosie Lange Buegeler. He lived most of his life in the Burlington area and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He married Mary Dokupil on July 10, 1951. He worked at Wilson Art in Temple and drove a truck for ClayJon Gas. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Roel Buegeler Jr. and Patrick Buegeler.

Frank Dwayne Jekel

Frank Dwayne Jekel, 77, of Cameron died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Gary Westbrook officiating. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery near Buckholts. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Jekel, owner and operator of D&L Service Company in Cameron, was born March 5, 1939, in Milam County to Frank and Mollie (Novotny) Jekel. He received his Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Education Degree in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M University. He married Lucille Michalka. He was Past President and board member of the Texas Rural Water Association, Past Vice-President and board member of the Post Oak Savannah Ground Water Conservation District, past board member of the Central Texas Water Supply Corporation. He had served on the Corinth Cemetery Association board and with the Milam County Junior Livestock Association.

Juan Martinez Nevarez

Juan Martinez Nevarez, 91, of Cameron died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, in a Cameron hospital. 

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 7, from 5-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. His body will be sent to Mexico for services and burial.

Mr. Martinez Nevarez, a retired farmer, was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Mexico to Isidro Martinez and Maria Del Refugio Nevarez. 

He is survived by: sons, Ramon Martinez of Durango, Cesario Martinez of Illinois, Jesus Martinez of Illinois and Isidro Martinez of Durango; daughters, Maria Carmen Rios of Cameron, Rita Martinez of Juarez, Mercedes Martinez of Illinois, Josefina Martinez of Durango and Sledad Bolivar of Illinois; 27 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Frank Arnold Tomascik

Frank Arnold Tomascik died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Tomascik was born in the Corinth Community of Milam County to John Henry and Tresa Repa Tomascik, one of nine children. He attended the Corinth School in Buckholts and Yoe High School in Cameron. At the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Army where he served for almost six years beginning at Fort Bliss in the Calvary Department. Later he was transferred to Camp White in Oregon where the 91st infantry was organized. He served 31 months over-seas starting in Algeria, then on to Egypt where he served under General Patton. Later he served in the southern part of Italy as a Forward Observer in the Leaning Tower of Pesa, then finishing up his service in Yugoslavia until the end of the war.

Ezequiel “George” Delao

Funeral Services for Mr. Ezequiel “George” Delao, 72, were held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at 11 a.m., in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, with Rev. Judy Gotcher of Granger officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rosebud. Mr. Delao passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, in a Temple hospital.

Mr. Delao was born April 10, 1944, to John and Juanita Hernandez Delao in Barclay. Having worked in the cattle industry for many years, he retired in 1994, after 37 years of employment with Hilliard and Kathryn Thomas, as their general ranch foreman.  After his retirement he was employed by David Barkemeyer until his death.  He also owned Delao Contract Labor Service.

Verna M. Barbee

Mrs. Verna M. Barbee, 79, of Cameron, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at a Cameron nursing home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Faith Chapel Church, Rochester.

She was born March 23, 1937, in Rochester, to Carl and Lois Martin Davidson. They preceded her in death.  She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Jerry Tumlinson and wife Tammy of Cameron; one brother, Joe Davidson of Portales, N.M.; and one sister, Mary Hollingsworth of Rochester.  Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Willie Maye Rea

Services for Willie Maye Rea, 86, of Temple were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Milne officiating.

Burial was at North Elm Cemetery in Yarrellton.

Mrs. Rea died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital.

She was born to William G. and Mattie (Blansett) Lock in Rogers on Aug. 20, 1930.

She retired from Scott and White Hospital after 27 years of service.  She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.  She devoted her time to volunteering for Operation Christmas Child, Wednesday Night Supper, Feed the Sheep Ministry, member of the Grievance Committee, Welcome Center Committee, Heritage Committee, and the Salvation Army.  She was a true woman of faith.

Judith "Judy" Ann Roper

Judith “Judy” Ann Roper, 74, of Gause, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016.  

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jimmy Sanders officiating and burial following at the Gause Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at the funeral home.
