Margaret Machann Zawadzke

Margaret Machann Zawadzke, 91, of Cameron died Tuesday, Sept. 15, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held Sept. 20, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Zawadzke, a homemaker, was born April 26, 1924 in Caldwell to Tom and Helen (Fitzgerald) Machann.
She married Edwin Franklin Zawadzke Jan. 29, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1994.
She is survived by daughters Gwen Denio and husband Jim of Cameron, Aleta Young and husband Andy of Sulphur Springs; four grandchildren Mike Denio and wife Anya, Randy Denio and wife Franci, Atrisha Young, Adena Jones and husband Nick; and four great grandchildren Jayci Denio, Keaton Denio, Darci Denio, Mackoy Denio.
Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron was in charge of arrangements.

William C. Black

William C. Black

William C. Black, age 88, of Temple passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Baylor Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple.  He was born on June 28, 1927 in Cameron, the son of Carl and Mary Black.
William was a 1944 graduate of Cameron High School, he served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946, received a Bachelor’s of Business from Baylor University in 1948, Masters of Business from Baylor in 1951, and a Bachelor’s of Law from Baylor in 1954.  In 1969 he received an Honorary Juris Doctorate from Baylor.
He currently attended Troy United Methodist Church in Troy and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Temple where he served as a Vestryman, Senior Warden, Lay reader, and teacher, and was on the Executive Board of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

Elaine Werner Laywell

Elaine Werner Laywell, 87, of Cameron died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 in a Temple hospital.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Walkers Creek Cemetery near Cameron with Rev. Doug Budd officiating.
Elaine was born March 25, 1928 in Shiner to August and Alma Blume Werner. She graduated from Shiner High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science egree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College and a Master’s Degree from the University of Houston. She also did post-graduate work at the University of Colorado in the summer.
Mrs. Laywell retired in 1990 after teaching 39 plus years in the Katy, Sealy and Cameron schools. She also spent nine years operating a private kindergarten and day care center in Houston.
She married Cecil Laywell on Oct. 17, 1953 in Brookshire. They made their home in the Katy area before moving to the Walkers Creek Community near Cameron in 1980.

Tommie Lynn Gillen

Funeral services for Tommie Lynn Gillen, age 69, of Cameron, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home with Reverend Drew Weber officiating.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at the Liberty Cemetery near Milano.
Mr. Gillen died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, in a San Antonio hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Gillen was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Dayton, Texas to Tommie and Lila Harrell Gillen and was retired from the United States Army.
Mr. Gillen was a graduate of Dayton High School in 1964 and graduated from Sam Houston State University and later got his master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin.
Mr. Gillen married Rita Stewart on Dec. 22, 1968. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cameron and the Milano Masonic Lodge.

William R. Kopriva

William R. “Willie” Kopriva, 84, of Gause died Wednesday, Sept. 9, in a Temple hospital.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Deacon Earl Colley officiating. 
Burial will follow in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Marak.  Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Kopriva, retired farmer and rancher, was born April 11, 1931 in Milam County to Frank Anton and Amelia (Hrachovy) Kopriva, Sr. 
He had been a previous owner/operator of Kopriva’s Cabinets in Pendleton.  He is survived by children  Billy Kopriva of Hayden, Idaho; Mike Kopriva of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sandy Kopriva Jordan of Cour D’Alene, Idaho, and Pamela Bowmer of Cedar Park; a brother  Walter Kopriva of Temple; a sister Vlasta Reed of Daphne, Alabama; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews

James O. Larson

James O. Larson

James O. Larson, 77 years of age, of Gause passed away Sept. 5, 2015.
A Memorial Service will be held Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. Pastor Ed Truelson will be leading a celebration of the life and music of James. Recordings of his students’ performances in Bryan, Wellington, and Dulles High School will be heard.
A private graveside service will be held at the Clifton, Texas cemetery at a later time.

Timothy Patrick Gleason

Timothy Patrick “Pat” Gleason of Glendale, Mo, passed away Sept. 1, 2015 after a brief illness with cancer.
Born Dec. 4, 1930 in Burlington, he was the son of the late Timothy Patrick Gleason of Burlington and the late Doris White-Gleason of Maysfield.
Pat grew up in Maysfield on the family farm with his brother, the late Tommy Gleason of Tomball and graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron. He married Billie Carlin of Crowley, La. in 1951.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he graduated from Texas A&M with a BS degree in Agricultural Engineering.
Pat and Billie moved to Glendale, Mo. in 1959, where he worked 47 years for Willert Home Products. He retired at the age of 75 as the VP of Sales and Marketing.

Cecil Edward Arnold

Cecil Edward Arnold

Cecil Edward Arnold, 72, of Houston and formerly of Cameron died Aug. 18, 2015.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
Cecil was born and schooled in Cameron and at 17, entered the US Army, where he learned the discipline, skill and confidence to go forward in the world. He became a Houston City fireman and a commercial pilot. After retirement from HFD, he earned his bachelor of arts and Masters of Arts degrees from the University of Houston and became a teacher, heading the Fire Academy at College of the Mainland for 10 years.
Photography, skeet and target shooting, flying, wood-working, boating and writing were just a few of the hobbies he enjoyed. His hand-crafted furniture and bowl turnings are pieces of art and grace the homes of friends all over the world.

Howard W. Klement

Howard W. Klement, 74, of Rogers died August 31, 2015 in Burleson.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 5, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Johnny Kueker officiating.
Burial followed in the Rogers City Cemetery.
Mr. Klement, previous owner/operator of Western Ford in Weatherford, was born Jan. 27, 1941 in Cameron to Frank L. and Mary (Jistel) Klement. He had also worked at Gateway Ford in Fort Worth and Metro Ford. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rogers and Texas Early Days Tractor and Engine Association.
He is survived by son Michael Klement of Alvarado; daughter Donna McCauley and husband Rodney of Burleson; brother Lee Klement of Maryland; sister Jeanette Klement of Flower Mound; wife Joyce Klement of Ardmore, Okla.; grandchildren John Michael Klement, Cooper McCauley, Grady Rhondon; stepsons Rick Davis, Tip Davis, Brad Davis and stepdaughter Leslie Mays; numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ida Irene Harris

Ida Irene Harris, 94, Waco and formerly of Cameron, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, in a Waco nursing facility. Funeral services were held Aug. 29 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial followed in Marlow Cemetery near Cameron.
Mrs. Harris, a homemaker, was born March 28, 1921 in Cameron to Heber and Pearl (Kilpatrick) Tindall.
She married Julian Ray Harris Jan. 2, 1940 and he preceded her in death in 2003.
She is survived by sons James Darrell Harris of Lubbock, Paul Coleman Harris of McGregor and Kevin Patrick Harris of Wortham; five grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren
