Eva Lou Oglesby

Eva Lou Oglesby, 84, of Granbury, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018, Walkers Creek Cemetery, Cameron, Texas.
Eva was born on Oct. 6, 1933, in Cameron, Texas, to Monroe and Lula Hickman. She married Calvin Henry Oglesby on June 24, 1950, in Cameron, Texas. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Eva travelled all over the United States in her RV. She enjoyed music especially Willie Nelson. She was a dog lover and her dogs were well loved and very important to her. She was an active member of Thorp Spring Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant son, Sammy Joe Oglesby.
Eva is survived by her children, Lois Callahan and husband Keith, Lee Kissel and husband Buck, John Oglesby and wife Ivy; brother, Gordon Hickman; sister, Marguerite Michalka and husband Albert; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Rosemary Crawford Mathis

Rosemary Crawford Mathis, 87, of Thorndale, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at her home in Thorndale.

Private graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2018, in the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery in Thorndale. 

Rosemary was born March 17, 1931, in Alpine, to Jack and Eddie Lee "Garnett" Crawford. She resided in Thorndale for 40 years and was a public school teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert L. "Bob" Mathis; her parents, Jack and Eddie Lee "Garnett" Crawford; and her brother, Jack Crawford.

She is survived by her daughters, Denise Brock of Thorndale and Marilynn Carle and husband Bill of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Jobi Brock and wife Felicia of Bryan and Chelsea Brock and husband Marcus Gest of Thorndale; her great-grandchildren, Kenzie Gest, Evelyn Brock and Harrison Brock; and her sister, Sally Hinkle and husband Gary of Wenatchee, Wash.

Richard Dennis Jones

Richard Dennis Jones, 71, of Alvin, formerly of Buckholts, passed away April 25, 2018, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018. at  Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow at Hope Lutheran Memorial Park Cemetery in Buckholts.

Eula Lane Burnett

Eula Lane Burnett, 88, of Ben Arnold died Thursday, April 19, 2018, in a Temple hospital. 

Services were held Saturday, April 21, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Burial followed in the Little River Cemetery near Jones Prairie. Visitation was held Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burnett, a homemaker and care giver, was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Milam County to William Marian and Bessie Clara (Price) Sweet. She married Leland Burnett on Sept. 17, 1955, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron where she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School. 

She is survived by: husband, Leland Burnett of Ben Arnold; sons, David Burnett of Cameron, and James Burnett and wife Charmaine of Temple; daughter, Carolyn Turner and husband Bob of Cameron; and three grandchildren, Greg Turner, Kristen Turner, and Lyndsey Dominguez and husband Michael.

Martha Vargas Lopez

Martha Vargas Lopez, 72, of Harker Heights and formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at her home. 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery in Cameron. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Ms. Lopez, a homemaker and housekeeper, was born July 29, 1945, in Littlefield, Texas, to Marcelino and Patricia Vargas. 

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Nicholas Lopez III; by two brothers, Daniel Vargas Sr. and Fernando Vargas; and by a sister, Elida Puentes.

Harold Glenn Hughes

Services for Harold Glenn Hughes, 70, of Caldwell are set for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Caldwell, with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. 

Mr. Hughes passed from this world on April 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.

Glenn was born Dec. 20, 1947, to I. N. Hughes and Alice (Greathouse) Hughes in Wichita Falls. He grew up in Cameron. He married Jan Tindall on Aug. 17, 1965, in Bellville.

Glenn’s career consisted of many automotive ventures; from owning gas stations to parts positions and finally leading him to Caldwell where he and A.W. Brewer purchased Harvey Motor Company. After A.W. Brewer’s retirement, Randy Doonan and Bobby Walker became his business partners where they ran Hughes-Doonan Chevrolet and Pontiac until his retirement.

Glenn Allen Wenzel Jr.

Glenn Allen Wenzel Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather, age 46, of Houston, was taken tragically on April 11, 2018. 

Glenn’s life exemplified kindness and the love of Christ in all his endeavors, as he lived by example.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Ray Wilson Wenzel. He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Daniel Preston; and granddaughters, Layla, Kyra, Serenity and Madison; son, Caleb Preston; niece, Kristie Darzins and husband Christopher; niece, (God-daughter) Jamie Sornig and husband Matthew; father, Glenn Wenzel Sr. and wife Betty; sister, Benita Wurz and husband Robert; nephew, Robert Glenn Wurz and Casey Strickland; nephew, Rodney Wurz; niece, Katie Wurz and Gregg Jeffcoat; great-niece, Tenleigh Jeffcoat; brother, Steve Siebeneicher and wife JoAnn; brother, Kevin Siebeneicher and wife Judy; niece, Nicki Rich and husband Keith.

Etna Kathleen (Gann) Jurca

On Friday, April 20, 2018, the last of a generation has completed its journey on earth, and ascended to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior. Etna Kathleen (Gann) Jurca was the last of a family generation of seven children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Charles and Lela Viola (Cosby) Gann; also brothers, W.T., Charles, Buren, and Lane; and sisters, Thelma Mae Groppel and Eula Helen Belcher. 

Kathleen finished her journey on earth at the age of 101. She was a native Texas, born April 18, 1917, in Maysfield, and lived all her life in Milam County. On April 15, 1942, she married the love of her life, Adolph Benjamin Jurca Sr., who preceded her in death on Friday, April 20, 1979, exactly 39 years to the day of her passing.

Milady Gelner Kovar

Milady Gelner Kovar, age 99, passed away at her home in Cameron surrounded by her small family on April 20, 2018.

Milady was born on Jan. 28, 1919, in Milam County to Frank and Frances Vybiral Gelner. She lived most of her life in Cameron where she graduated from Yoe High School.

Milady married Joe Kovar on Dec. 1, 1941, who at the time was in the Army serving our nation. This army life gave Milady the opportunity to live in Florida, New York and other ocean front states. But when Joe had to leave for Kiska, one of the Aleutian Islands, Milady came back to Cameron to wait for his return. 

In 1947 they started their family when daughter, Sandra, was born and in 1948 a second daughter, Jo Ann, blessed them.

Milady lived her life with great energy, joy and strength. She showed her love and patience in her care of Sandra who had polio as a baby.

Vicki Michelle Collins

Vicki Michelle Collins, 52, of Temple died Friday, April 20, 2018, in a Temple hospital. 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak with Rev. George Thirumangalam officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ben Arnold Cemetery in Ben Arnold. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
