John Norton Springer

John Norton Springer, 74, of Cameron died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at his home.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 10 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Mr. Springer was born Feb. 15, 1943 in Cameron to John Everett and Zelda Marie (Young) Springer. He received his Master’s Degree from Baylor University. He taught History and Social Studies for two years at Waller ISD and then retired from Spring ISD.   

He is survived by his mother Zelda Springer of Cameron

Arthur Mary Lewis

Arthur Mary Lewis, 64, of Cameron died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at her home. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at True Love Worship Center.  Burial will follow in the Cameron Rest Cemetery. Wake services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Ms. Lewis was born Sept. 13, 1953, in Cameron to Mack Harvey Lewis Sr. and Verna Lee Lewis. She attended O. J. Thomas High School. Ms. Lewis was baptized at an early age. She first attended church at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and later became a faithful member of True Love Family Worship Center where she had served as the Singles Ministry Leader and then as the Women’s Ministry Leader.  She had worked as a CNA for many years and for Ambassadors of We Care Home Health.  She also ran a home day care. 

She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Dewayne Lewis; by a brother, Frederick Lewis; and by two sisters, Frances Kennard and Betty Cavil.

Blandina Phillippina “Blondie” Elsenburg

Blandina Phillippina “Blondie” Elsenburg, 90, of Troy died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, in a Temple hospital. 

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Elsenburg was born April 8, 1927, in Regensburg, Germany, to Josef and Veronica (Fuchs) Vierthaler.  She married Johnie Elsenburg and he preceded her in death in 2012. She was a retired seamstress from the Cameron Dress Manufacturing, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Battetown Baptist Church. 

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Max. 

She is survived by: sons, Johnie W. Elsenburg Jr. of Troy and James A. Elsenburg of Holland; daughter, Patricia Ann Elsenburg Vargeson of Troy; sister, Erma Moser of Regensburg, Germany; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Arbie Victor Patschke

Arbie Patschke passed away at the age of 88 in Colorado Springs. He was a long-term missionary to Japan and the beloved father of seven children.

Arbie was born in the small town of Thorndale, Texas, where his father owned a local barbershop. He embarked on his seminary preparation at the early age of 13 with the love and support of his family and community, enrolling at Concordia Lutheran, a boarding school in Austin. From there he went on to St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas, the to Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. His 35 years of missionary work in Japan began with his two-year vicar service in 1951. Serving most of his missionary career in northern Japan, Arbie traversed the snowy roads to multiple churches in Hokkaido and Fukushima, and shoveled the paths to church kindergartens where he was headmaster.

Juanita Lopez

Juanita Lopez, 70, of Cameron died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, in a Temple hospital.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lopez, a homemaker, was born July 22, 1947, in the Sharp Community of Milam County to Florencio Garcia and Felacita Gomez. She was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. 

She is survived by: sons, Andrew Lopez of Taylor, Miguel Angel Lopez of Cameron, and Ray Lopez of Cameron; and sisters, Lupe Villanueva of Cameron and Alfonsa Garcia of Cameron.

Joe David Millian

Joe David Millian, age 74, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, at UTMB in Galveston.

He was born in Fort Worth to Joe and Loraine Millian, living most of his life in the Austin area. He attended Belton High School and enrolled at the University of Texas in 1961 with studies in linguistics, speaking Eastern European languages as well as Spanish and English.  He worked at the Austin White Lime Co. and Gardenville to name only a few.

He was passionate about motocross racing and enjoyed organic gardening.  In his spare time he raced motocross (#19), gardening on the one acre plot which included may fruit trees, blackberries and a beautiful pecan tree.  He also volunteered to many citizens in Round Rock assisting in Spanish with income taxes, volunteering at KUTX during pledge drives as well as having a gardening program in the early 90’s.

Joe was extremely proud of his three children, Tamara DiBenedetoo of Austin, Amy Thiel of Bastrop and Charles Millian of Austin.

David Robert Johnson

David Robert Johnson, 47, of Buckholts and formerly of Temple, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at his home. 

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Corinth Cemetery near Buckholts. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Johnson, a certified Microsoft technician, was born Nov. 12, 1970, in Evansville, Ind., to Robert and Carol (Heck) Johnson. 

He is survived by: sons, Jordan Scott Johnson-Thiel of Austin and Benjamin Levi Johnson of Katy; mother, Carol Heck Johnson of Highland Village; father, Robert Johnson of Englewood, Fla.; sisters, Kristina Johnson Jones of Flower Mound and Karen Myers of Lebanon, Mo.

Leo Charles Moraw

Leo Charles Moraw, 77, of Cameron died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, in a Temple hospital. 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Mr. Moraw, retired owner/operator of Milam Sheet Metal, was born July 2, 1940, in Cameron to Leo A. and Mary Lou (Hatterman) Moraw. He was a 1958 graduate of C. H. Yoe High School. He married Patricia Jo (Pat) Wilkinson on Jan. 16, 1960.  He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kasey Jo Moraw and Cory Ray Moraw.

William Quintero Sr.

William Quintero Sr., 73, a devoted Jehovah's Witness of Cameron passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, in a Temple hospital.

"Willie" as he was affectionately known, a loving, caring, thoughtful dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a wonderful personable friend was born June 5, 1944 in Rogers to Ramon and Soledad (Molina) Quintero.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Julia in 2007, and oldest daughter Laura Seiler in 2016.

Willie is survived by his son, Willie Quintero Jr. of Harker Heights; his daughters, Shirley Ponce of Cameron, Marla Torres of Houston, and Alisa Jimenez of Temple; his brothers, Jimmy Quintero and Tommy Quintero of

Austin, and Reuben Quintero and Salvador Quintero of Rogers; and his sisters, Sophia Garza and Josie Vargas of Rogers. Willie leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Thomas Ray Henson

Mrs. Thomas Ray Henson, 72, of Plano, died Jan. 12, 2018, at his residence. 

A memorial service/visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 5-7 p.m. at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Henson was born July 13, 1945, in Cameron to Jimmie and Ruth Henson. He graduated from Rockdale High School and attended Texas A&M University. He worked at Curtis Mathes in Athens, and at Texas Instruments in Dallas and was a retired partner at Southwest Alarm Systems in Dallas.

Survivors include: sisters, Linda Layne of Cameron and Jane Knott and husband David of Rockdale; nephews, Andy and Steve Layne; and aunt, Mary Porubsky. He is also survived by three great-nephews, two great-nieces, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Connie Henson.
