Paul Eugene Matocha

Paul Eugene Matocha, 95, of Sugar Land, and formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in Sugar Land. 

Funeral services were held July 21 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial followed in the St. Monica’s Cemetery.  Visitation was held on Friday, July 20, with a rosary being recited at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Paul was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Cameron to Boles Peter and Angeline (Krenek) Matocha. He lived in Cameron most of his life, moved to Austin and on to San Antonio. After his graduation from high school in San Antonio, he went to the National Guard and into the Army. He served 26 months in Italy and other European war zones. He was a member of the American Legion.

Lorraine McGregor

Lorraine McGregor, 96, of Cameron died Sunday, July 22, 2018, in a Cameron nursing and rehab facility. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. McGregor, a homemaker, was born July 4, 1922, in Hare to Norman Eugene and Louise Pearl (Meyer) Roskey.  She married Charles Talmadge “Mac” McGregor on Feb. 24, 1940, and he preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Ray McGregor.

She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. 

She is survived by: son, Charlie McGregor of Rockdale; sisters, Betty Sodek of Temple and Hazel Thompson of Houston; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ronald McWilliams

Ronald McWilliams, 72, of Cameron passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Mr. McWilliams was born Nov. 19, 1945, in Cameron to Logan V. and Lillie  (Biskup) McWilliams.  He married Cynthia Ruth Daniels on March 31, 1979. He served as a radar man in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict and had worked as a Manufacturing supervisor for Westinghouse for many years. Mr. McWilliams enjoyed saltwater fishing and was a member of the Coastal Conservation Association. He was a beekeeper with his father for many years and a rancher for over 10 years.

His real passion was being a Master Gardener for the Little River Basin. He also created a certified Wild Life Habit with the National Wildlife Federation in his backyard in Cameron.

Colleen Riley

Colleen Riley, 57, of Cameron, died Sunday, July 15, 2018, in a Temple hospital.  Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Billy Crouch officiating.

Colleen, a homemaker, was born Oct. 3, 1960, in Cameron to Calvin and Pearl Lee Josephine (Vybiral) Allison.

She is survived by: sons, Robert Ulicnik of Buckholts and Kevin Ulicnik of Rockdale; daughter, Misty Edwards of Port Lavaca; father, Calvin Allison of Burnett; sister, Cindy Baker of Burnett; and five grandchildren.

Services for Billy Wayne Grimm, 67, of Thorndale will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale with Rev. Aaron Kalbas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery in Thorndale. The family will received visitors Monday, July 16, 2018, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale

Virginia (Ginger) Bruce Couch Sanders

Virginia (Ginger) Bruce Couch Sanders, 77 of Temple, died Friday, July 13, 2018, at a Temple nursing and rehab center.

Viewing will be Friday, July 20, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Billy Ray Crow officiating.  Burial will be in South Elm Cemetery at a later date. 

Mrs. Sanders, a retired receptionist for Johnson Brothers Ford, was born April 26, 1941, in Rogers, Texas, to Gordon Bruce and Vivian (Sammon) Rae. 

She is survived by: son, Gary Couch of Temple; five grandchildren, Latrisha, Crystal, Gary Jr., Shane and Jason; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Adele Pilling Evans

Adele Evans, mother, grandmother, and sister, died on July 9, 2018, at the age of 92. 

Adele was born in Cameron, Texas, on Oct. 13, 1925, and was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, Buckholts, Texas. Her parents, deceased, were Henry and Lena Pilling.

Adele is survived by her son and his wife, Bruce and Mary Evans of Austin, Texas,; and grandchildren, Courtney and Dylan Evans, and Eric and Caroline Johnson. Also, surviving her are three sisters, Hilda Engelke, Irma Kalmbach, and Aileen Jones and husband John Lee Jones.  Two sisters, Doris French and Mary Ann McGuire are deceased. Brother-in-law Bill McGuire, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends survive her.

Eloise “Lella” McCarroll Henderson

Eloise “Lella” McCarroll Henderson, 83, of Cameron went to be with God on July 8, 2018, in Bryan, Texas.

She was born on May 9, 1935 in Jacksonville, Texas. She married John Burns Henderson Jr. on June 8, 1956, in Rusk, Texas.

She was preceded in death by their son John III; son-in-law, Bijan; brother, Sonny; her parents, Lewis and Eloise McCarroll; and in-laws, John and Fan Henderson.

Lella is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John; her children, Eloise Bouzari and Elizabeth Leeper (Kenneth); and her grandchildren, Ali Bouzari (Liz), Kelsey Reed (Joe), John David Leeper, and Meri Bouzari. She is survived by her sisters, Ann Irwin (John) and Susan Birdwell (Michael); and sister-in-laws, Virginia McCarroll and Jane Swan (Curt). She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children.

Jerry Wayne Steele Sr.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Steele Sr., 71, of Cameron, died Sunday, July 8, at his home.

Services for Mr. Steele will be held Friday, July 13, at 10 a.m. in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, with William Beasley officiating. Burial will follow in the Milano Cemetery.

Mr. Steele was born Oct. 12, 1946, in Milano. He graduated from Milano High School and served his country in the United States Army. He was retired from the United States Post Office. Also, in later years he was a bartender. He married his wife, Bammer, in 1994.

Survivors include: his wife, Bammer Steele of Cameron; sons, Jerry Steele Jr. and wife Jesenia, and Craig Steele, both of Austin; and sister, Debbie Gross of Georgia. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kevin, Ariana, Ethan, Aubrey and Mason Steele.

Visitation for the family will be held Thursday, July 12, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marie Garrard

Marie Garrard, 82, of Austin and formerly of Cameron died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at her home. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica’s Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Ms. Garrard was born on July 8, 1935, in Wharton to Fred and Carolina “Carrie” (Giese) Heinz. She had been a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church where she had served in many capacities, such as a CCE instructor, Eucharistic minister, serving on the bereavement committee and singing in the church choir for many years.  She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cameron VFW.
