Yoemen take down #7 Bellville, 33-10

The Cameron Yoemen opened the 2016 season on Friday night by defeating the highly touted Bellville Brahmas, 33-10.  The Brahmas, which are ranked inside the top ten of multiple 4A division two polls, only managed one touchdown off of the stingy Yoe defense.  Meanwhile, the Yoe offense was proficient, scoring three touchdowns in the first half while taking a commanding 20-3 lead into the locker room at the half.  Bellville managed to get the game to as close as 26-10 in the third quarter, but the Yoemen quickly dashed any hopes of a comeback after a Sicory Smith 72-yard pass from quarterback Zack Andress early on in the fourth quarter.

Yoemen begin 2016 season with top 10 Bellville

Once the non-district schedule was released for the Yoemen, everyone in Cameron knew there were going to be some very tough challenges in the early going.  That first challenge begins this Friday night at the "Pasture of Pain" in Bellville as the Yoemen kick off the 2016 season.  Bellville, coming off a state quarterfinal appearance a year ago, enters this season ranked inside the top 10 of most major 4A DII polls across the state.  "Bellville is a lot like Cameron," said Yoemen head coach Tommy Brashear.

Cameron Yoe Vs. Bellville

If the Brahmas end up being as good as their preseason number seven ranking in the state, then this would be the toughest season opener for Cameron since the 2000 season with Gatesville. The Hornets won that game (34-2) and went on to win the state championship over Abilene Wylie (14-10) to finish the season a perfect 15-0. I believe there will be a few key matchups in this game to watch. Bellville runs the slot-t offense.

The Lady Yoe continued to wind down their non-district schedule on Tuesday by traveling over to Navasota to take on the Lady Rattlers. Cameron kept every set close, but fell in four - 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25 - to fall to 4-16 on the season.

The Lady Yoe were in good position in the opening set, going up 6-1 before Navasota took over to win the opener. The ladies stayed competitive throughout the second, trailing by only two (16-14, 22-20) twice in the set before rallying late to pick up the 25-23 win. Rallies in both the third and fourth set fell short. Savannah Kruse had...
