Yoemen aiming to join elite company

Football is the most popular sport in the United States of America.  From the National Football League to college and down to high school football, fans of the game are always eager to watch their favorite team.

Football, along with may other things, is bigger in Texas.  In Cameron, it’s taken to another level.

When the Yoemen step on the field this Friday night, they will not only be going for a district opening win, but they will also be vying for the 700th victory in program history.  That is a mark only six other schools from every classification in the state have eclipsed.

“It just shows what Cameron has been in the past, what Cameron is, and what Cameron will be in the future,” said first-year Yoemen head coach Tommy Brashear.

Yoemen open district with always-solid McGregor

When district realignment came out back in February, it was known that 10-3A was going to be taken up a notch in difficulty with the additions of some traditionally tough teams.  This week, the Yoemen (3-1) will be opening up 10-3A play by hosting one of those teams - the McGregor Bulldogs.

McGregor comes into this game with a 2-2 record, but that could be somewhat deceiving based on the strength of schedule.

"McGregor is 2-2, but they have played a pretty good schedule themselves," said Yoe head coach Tommy Brashear.  "They started out with Groesbeck and beat them pretty well, then they lost to Sunnyvale, which is a highly ranked 3A team.  They also lost to Mart who always has a good team and they have a good program over there."

Cross country runners compete at Lexington

After several weeks of preparation, the Yoemen and Lady Yoe cross country teams began their season on Saturday at the Lexington Invitational.

Though it’s early, Cameron did find some success as two boy’s varsity runners finished inside of the top ten while two JV girls placed within the top ten.

“We ran most of our people in JV divisions as we are in such a developing stage that we would have destroyed mentally to run varsity,” said Yoe head cross country coach Dale Keen.  “At some point we will have to but right now we just need to try and have some success.”

All squads will be back on the road this Saturday at Caldwell.

Yoemen clip Bay City in Homecoming contest

Coming off of last week's tough 63-13 loss to 4A power China Spring, the Yoemen needed to respond.  It took just over three quarters of play in Friday's night Homecoming contest, but the Yoemen finally took the lead over Bay City and never relinquished it, winning 30-27.

Coming into Friday's action, Bay City had used the big play and speed to their advantage.  That theme continued on a humid night from Yoe Field as the Black Cats used big plays to strike early.  Daryl Florez, which played on the 2014 state championship Yoemen team, caught a pair of (63-yard, 76-yard) passes from QB Dylan Davidson to put the Yoemen in an early hole, 14-0.

Lady Yoe volleyball announces Dig Pink 2016

The Lady Yoe volleyball program has announced the start of the 7th Annual Dig Pink fundraiser.

During this fundraiser all proceeds are donated directly to breast cancer research.

Last year, with your help, the ladies were able to donate over $14,000 to this cause that affects so many of us, and they are ready to do it again.

There are several ways to get involved.

Now through Sept. 19 you can order your Dig Pink T-shirt from any Yoe volleyball player or coach for $15, cash only. Shirts are pre-order, pre-pay only.

The Dig Pink game will be on Oct. 4 at Yoe Gym against Rogers. There will be a silent auction, raffle, pink treats, Pink Ribbon Wall of Honor and much more pink fun.

On Oct. 7 Dig Pink will be at the Yoe football game against Jarrell with a balloon walk and pass the bucket.

On Oct. 21 Dig Pink will be at the Yoe football game against Academy with pass the bucket.

Yoemen look to rebound with Bay City for Homecoming

Most fans of the Cameron Yoemen are all wondering the same thing this week - How are the Yoemen going to respond?

Cameron is coming off a 63-13 loss to China Spring - their worst home defeat since Liberty Hill (63-14) in 2007 and Marlin (70-7) in 2003.  Though the loss is a tough one to swallow, it’s still early and there is time to fix some issues and mistakes that occurred in last week’s home opener.

Lady Yoe fall to Rogers, Jarrell to open 20-3A play

This past week, the Lady Yoe began play in one of the toughest districts in the state. Cameron had played a challenging non-district schedule but that did not pay off this past week as the ladies dropped matches to both Rogers and Jarrell to begin 20-3A action.

Rogers

Rogers is always regarded as one of the top volleyball teams in the area and should compete for a district title again in 2016. That was validated on Friday night as the Lady Eagles posted a three-set sweep over Cameron.

The ladies fell 11-25, 15-25 and 11-25. Savannah Kruse has been one of the top Lady Yoe attackers all year and led the team with a total of five kills. Jazmin Vaculin had 10 digs while Gracen Dach and Kruse each came in with seven.

Kruse had two blocks and Darci Denio had a team high seven assists.
