Dorothy Jean Vaculin

Dorothy Jean (Zalesky) Vaculin, 86, of Buckholts, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak with Rev. Darrell Kostiha officiating. Burial will follow in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Dorothy was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Buckholts to Joe L. and Noma (Richter) Zalesky. She attended Buckholts School graduating in 1949.

She married Cyril “Pete” Vaculin on Nov. 28, 1950. They resided on their blackland farm in the Marak Community that was purchased from family members.

She devoted her entire life as a farmer’s wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Elroy McDaniel

Elroy McDaniel, 91, of Cameron, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, in a Cameron nursing and rehab center. 

Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Lawler Cemetery in Florence with Bro. Wayne Kirk officiating.

Mr. McDaniel was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Florence to Eldy and Sadie (Stanford) McDaniel. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He married Dorothy Housewright on Nov. 21, 1945, and she preceded him in death on May 23, 1996.  He retired from Mrs. Baird’s Bakery. 

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Miriam Glover and twin sister Elmerle Daniel; and brother, Truett McDaniel. 

He is survived by: son, Mike McDaniel and wife Nancy of Florence; daughters, Jeanie Kirk and husband Wayne of Milano, and Rebecca Gonzales of Temple; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren

Twila Jean Adams

Twila Jean Adams peacefully passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11, to join the Lord and her beloved husband of 67 years, Orlyn Milton Adams.

A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church led by Rev. Jeff Davis in Cameron at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018. Graveside Services will follow in Llano City Cemetery at 3 p.m., and will also be led by Rev. Jeff Davis.   

She was a long standing member of the All Saints Episcopal Church located in Cameron and enjoyed the love and support of her church family.

She is survived by her niece, Nanette and husband Dale Edmonds of Temple; nephews, Murray and wife Tina Hinz of League City, Damaron Simpson, Lawton and wife Lisa Simpson, Devin and wife Vanessa Simpson, of Llano; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Delinda Gail Nichols

Delinda Gail Nichols, 55, of Cameron died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, in a Cameron nursing and rehab center. 

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 3, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Troxel officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nichols was born June 15, 1963, in Austin to Floyd B. and Mary Delores (Lang) Vinson.  She married Terry Nichols on July 30, 1994, and had worked as a secretary. She was a member of Battetown Baptist Church. 

She is survived by: husband, Terry Nichols of Cameron; daughter, Elizabeth Michaela Nichols of Cameron; son, Kerry Jay Nichols of Cameron; mother, Mary Sheeley of Cameron; sisters, Virginia Sheeley of Cameron, Tammy Renie Duval Gray of Florence and Loretta Lynn Conn of Arkansas.

Virgil C. Wall

Mr. Virgil C. Wall, 87, of Gause, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, in a Caldwell nursing facility. Graveside services will be held Friday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. in the Gause Cemetery.

Mr. Wall was born May 21, 1931, in Gause to Frank and Blanche (Green) Wall. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include: wife, Brenda Wall of Gause; sons, Kenneth Wall of Minerva, Larry Wall, Virgil Wall and Curtis Wall, all of Gause; daughters, Joyce Lamont of College Station, Lora Brown of Gause and Sharon Magallanes of Bryan; and brother, Melvin Wall of Gause.

Mr. Wall was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Charlie Wall in 2007.

Stephen J. Mendoza

Stephen J. Mendoza, 64, of Fort Worth and formerly of Cameron died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at his home. 

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Deacon Jack Murphy officiating.

Mr. Mendoza was born Sept. 17, 1953, in Cameron to Joe Mendoza and Dolores Jaramillo. He had worked as a maintenance mechanic. 

He is survived by: sons, Michael Mendoza of Lake Jackson, Scott Mendoza of Cameron, and Stephen Mendoza of Fort Worth; daughter, Ashley Ibarra of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Tony Mendoza of Temple and Jesse Mendoza of Cameron; sisters, Margaret Luna of Temple and Obeta Martinez of Caldwell; and eight grandchildren.

Sharon Ann Balch

Sharon Ann Balch, 67, of Cameron died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at her residence.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Deacon Bill Smetana officiating. Burial will follow in the Walkers Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Balch was born Dec. 8, 1950, in Cameron to Norman and Lottie (Young) Cook.  She had worked as a bookkeeper for many years.  She was a member of the Little River Baptist Church. 

She is survived by: daughters, Elizabeth “Lynn” Morris of London, Ontario, Johanna Doskocil and husband Charlie of Burlington, and Rebekka Arnold and husband Aaron of Buckholts; and nine grandchildren.

Cesare Mancuso

Mr. Cesare Mancuso, 85, of Cameron passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, in a Temple hospital. 

A memorial service for Mr. Mancuso will be held at First United Methodist Church on Sept. 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Geoff Lightsey officiating.

Mr. Mancuso was born in Sicily, Italy, to Sebastian and Giovanna Mancuso. He came to the United States in 1960 and became a U. S. Citizen in 1965. He was an architectural woodworker and also worked in the oilfield industry.  Mr. Mancuso was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cameron but remained a devout Roman Catholic.

Carlos Daniel Valles

Carlos Daniel Valles, 19, of Cameron died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2018, as result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Milam County near Rogers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Valles was born July 13, 1999, in Four Piers, Fla., to Bertha Oviedo and Perpetuo Valles. 

He was working for Big Creek Construction. 

He is survived by: parents, Bertha Oviedo of Cameron and Perpetuo Valles of Florida; grandparents, Maria Rangel of Cameron and Jenaro Oviedo of Mexico; brothers, Jose Omar Valles of Cameron and Luis Valles of Cameron; sisters, Rosa Valles of Cameron and Luzenda Lizbeth Landa of Cameron.

Jakob Calvin Edward Gordon

Jakob Calvin Edward Gordon, infant child of John Richard and Allison Marie (Baker) Gordon, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, in a Mineral Wells hospital. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery in Buckholts. Visitation was held Monday at the funeral home.

Jakob was born April 24, 2018, in Mineral Wells. 

He is survived by: his parents John Richard and Allison Marie (Baker) Gordon of Mineral Wells; brothers, John Richard Gordon Jr. and James Lee Gordon, both of Mineral Wells, and Richard Alan Gordon of Rockdale; grandparents, Cindy Lee Baker of Lampasas, Jimmy John Baker of Rockdale, Patricia Mae Dodd of Corpus Christi, and James Alan Gordon Sr. of Alabama; great-grandparents, Calvin Allison of Spicewood and Velma Fino Buckholts.
